I have been an owner-operator and I have run a shop, and the gap between how the two are treated is wider than it should be. If you are an owner-operator looking for a shop, here is what to look for. One: do they give you a written estimate before any work? Two: do they explain the diagnosis, not just hand you a quote? Three: do they offer a real warranty, or hide behind vague language? Four: do they price fairly for one truck the way they would for a fleet? Five: do they treat your truck like it pays your kids' college tuition, because it does? You should walk away from any shop that gives you a runaround on any of these. Your truck is your business, and the right shop knows that.
