Servicing commercial EVs in 2026: what is different, what is the same

James Park2025-11-206 min read

High voltage safety, BMS service, charging hardware, and where commercial EV service overlaps with conventional.

Commercial EV service is not the same job, and it is not a different job either. The chassis, brakes, body, suspension, tires, glass, and HVAC work largely the same as a diesel platform. The drivetrain, battery, BMS, and charging system are entirely new disciplines that require certified high voltage training, proper PPE, and a different shop layout for safe isolation procedures. We invested in dedicated EV service bays with disconnect-safe lifts, insulated tooling, and certified technicians for the high voltage work. The economic case is straightforward: parts cost is lower in some areas (no exhaust, no transmission, no engine in the traditional sense), but battery service is the most expensive single line item in fleet history. PM intervals on tires, brakes, and HVAC are tighter than diesel because of vehicle weight and regen brake wear patterns.
